We leave Florence and drive directly to Greve, the first of the small and fascinating towns which we’ll visit in the course of this magnificent tour. After a brief look at the most interesting parts of the area we continue to Castellina where we visit the historic village and enjoy a good lunch with Chianti wines, and particularly Chianti Classico, the undoubted protagonist of this production area.
Before we return to Florence there will be an opportunity to continue to Radda in Chianti to visit a village as beautiful as it is small. Radda, together with Gaiole and Castellina was one of the so-called 3 Terzieri (bulwarks) of the ancient League of Chianti, an institution espressly created by the Florentine Republic to defend the southern borders of its territory as they were situated not very far from Siena, the last independent stronghold not yet under the control of the powerful Florence.
